Glucagon is produced in the pancreas and raises the concentration of glucose in the bloodstream. When glucose levels in the blood are low, the pancreas releases glucagon which causes the liver to convert stored glycogen into glucose. When blood glucose levels are high, insulin is released, which allows glucose to be used by tissues. This balance between glucagon and insulin keeps blood glucose levels stable.
